Possibly the best of all of the USHC bands, almost every goddamn track on “The Fat Elvis” (comprising their two later albums and the Fun Fun Fun EP) is a complete basic screamalong. Theoretically this is nice, high-quality live performances from the 1st 2 albums and associated tracks, but it didn’t appear to add something to the catalog (besides to underscore what a kickass band they have been, these blazing tracks lack the sloppiness of a number of related bands’ dwell recordings). I’ve never actually been able to “get” this band past just a few scattered examples, and this “EP” (really album-length) is not any exception. This one is probably the most wild and raw, however it’s nonetheless received a couple of stripped down pop gems in there amidst the guitar freakouts. Still probably the most satisfying full-size LPs to return out of the early-90’s New Zealand ‘Xpressway” scene, that is moody and minor and almost goth in its bleak melodicism and deadpan vocals. My other favorite Beck report, his “dumb ass celebration music” file sadly seems to be a one-off, unlikely to be repeated. Their loudest and punkiest file, re-listening to this was a blast. Possibly even better than I remember it, the trippy sound of this album is so deep and engrossing especially on the slower tracks. Headache sounded better than I remembered, though yeah it’s not nearly as good. It’s time so as to add yet another amazing toy to your intercourse device kit. I can’t remember a single factor about it after listening, but it sounds cool while it’s taking part in. The music, after all, contains a few of the most haunting, determined, devastated sounds and emotions ever put onto a document.
